The future of Pix: the system enters a phase of maturity and opens new opportunities for businesses
The next phase of Pix is already taking shape, with initiatives that expand its everyday use by businesses and consumers
Brazil, May 5, 2026 – In just a few years, Pix, Brazil’s instant payment system, has become the country’s main payment method, and it is now entering a new stage of evolution. If the early focus was on adoption and expansion, the current moment points to a more sophisticated system, with new features, deeper integration with businesses and a growing challenge: maintaining security, governance and trust in an increasingly important infrastructure.
The next phase of Pix is already taking shape, with initiatives that expand its everyday use by businesses and consumers. Highlights include Pix Automático (automatic recurring Pix), which will enable recurring payments, such as subscriptions and monthly bills, in a simple, integrated way. Another important advance is the evolution of so-called hybrid billing, popularly known as “bolepix”, which combines the familiarity of the boleto (Brazil’s bank payment slip) with the instant settlement of Pix.
In addition, new technologies such as biometric authentication and improvements to the user experience are expected to gain ground, making the system even smoother and more secure. Also on the radar are more complex features for the corporate environment, such as financial automation and integration with enterprise management systems.
A less visible, more structural evolution
For Peterson Santos, CEO and co-founder of Trio Grupo Financeiro, a company that develops solutions designed especially for the corporate environment, Pix is going through a transformation that is less noticeable to end users but decisive for the system’s future. “After attending the Pix Forum in Brasília, I came away with an even clearer sense of where the arrangement stands today. Pix keeps evolving, but the agenda is now less and less about visible novelty and more and more about the system’s maturity,” he says.
According to him, some moves already signal this new phase. Among them is the rollout of hybrid billing, which aims to extend Pix to other forms of billing. Under the Central Bank of Brazil’s timeline, this type of billing is expected in October 2026; and since we at Trio specialize in implementing Pix and always seek to offer our clients the highest level of technology, native BolePix is already a reality on our platform and can be used by everyone who holds our Corporate Account. Also planned are improvements to the self-service flow of the MED (Special Refund Mechanism) and preparations for a native tax split within the arrangement, scheduled to start in 2027. Another area expected to take center stage is security. “There’s a clear signal that this front should carry even more weight in the coming months, with a focus on expanding the tools and the quality of information available to participants,” explains Santos.
Opportunities for businesses
In this new scenario, Pix is establishing itself not only as a payment method but as strategic infrastructure for businesses. The ability to integrate payments, automate financial processes and reduce operating costs opens the door to new applications in the corporate environment. It is in this context that companies like Trio Grupo Financeiro are gaining prominence. Specializing in financial infrastructure and payments technology, the company works directly on building solutions that harness the potential of Pix to make business operations more efficient.
With its own technology and a focus on performance, Trio develops tools that range from payment management to smarter financial flows, integrating Pix with corporate systems and expanding its strategic use within companies. For Peterson Santos, the challenge from here on is not only creating new features but sustaining the system’s evolution. “I’ve often said that Pix hasn’t stopped evolving. The difference is that this evolution now depends more and more on the quality of the governance that keeps the ecosystem standing,” he says.
