The dashboard's numbers come from the Central Bank of Brazil's open data, in the payment statistics dataset. The banking technology block comes from the Febraban Banking Technology Survey 2026, made with Deloitte.

  • Quarterly: the Central Bank publishes each quarter about two months after it ends. The page always shows the latest published, and the picker goes back to 2015.
  • Values: in current reais, not adjusted for inflation. The total adds up every instrument, without cash withdrawals. DOC and TEC, closed in February 2024, count in the total but not in the list.
  • Pix: this dataset counts Pix differently from the Pix dataset behind the Pix Map, so the totals do not match between the two pages.
  • Card cost: the Central Bank publishes the merchant discount rate (MDR) and interchange by brand, capture type and installments. The average by function is Trio's, weighted by each row's value.
  • Corporate cards: the Empresarial and Corporativo products added up, in every function.
  • Card terminals: the POS series jumps between 2018 and 2019 (from 4.2M to 10.3M), which looks like a change in collection. Compare nearby quarters.
  • Febraban: a sample of banks (11 to 25 per chart, about 82% to 85% of the sector's assets), with 2025 data. Its numbers do not add up with the Central Bank's.

Questions
about the data.

Which payment method moves the most money in Brazil?

By value, TED still leads, because it carries large transfers between companies and institutions. By number of transactions, Pix leads by far. The payment methods panel shows both sides for the chosen quarter.

Why is Pix on this page different from the Pix Map?

They are two Central Bank datasets with different counts. This one uses the payment statistics, which compare every instrument. The Pix Map uses the Pix open data, which carries recipient, sector and state.

What does taking cards cost a company?

The merchant pays the discount rate (MDR), which includes the issuer's interchange and the acquirer's and network's part. The cost panel shows the quarter's average by function (credit, debit and prepaid), weighted by value. Each company's rate depends on its contract with the acquirer.

What counts as a corporate card?

The products the Central Bank classifies as Empresarial and Corporativo added up, in credit, debit and prepaid. They are the cards issued to companies for expenses and purchases.

How often is the data updated?

Every quarter, about two months after it ends, when the Central Bank publishes it. The banking technology block changes once a year, with Febraban's new survey.

Can I use these numbers?

Yes. Cite the source as Trio, with Central Bank of Brazil data, and, in the banking technology block, Febraban/Deloitte. The full quarterly series is in the CSV file.
