When Pix doesn't fail: what an A rating from the Central Bank means

The Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) constantly monitors the performance of the financial and payment institutions that operate Pix, Brazil’s instant payment system, assessing factors such as system availability, response time and transaction reliability to build the IQS (Service Quality Index, Índice de Qualidade de Serviço).

To ensure the quality of the service provided to the public, the BCB developed a performance rating system (the IQS) for the institutions that operate Pix. It analyzes specific metrics, such as system availability, complaints received and answered, response time and transaction reliability, to assign a performance rating to each participating institution. The possible IQS ratings are A, B, C, D and E.

Being in category A means the institution has held the highest possible score on every index over the last six months.

The IQS is built on three main metrics: the Complaints Index, the Availability Index and the Timeout Index. Each index has its own calculation method, ranging from operational checks to technical performance measurements. For more on the methodology behind each index, see the official article on the website of the Central Bank of Brazil.

The rating is updated monthly and reflects how reliable and efficient each institution is within the Pix ecosystem.

An A rating: the highest standard of stability

The Availability Index (one of the components of the IQS) measures how long the institution can communicate with the Central Bank’s system without interruption. When that communication fails, through what are called timeouts or downtime, transactions may take longer to complete or may not be processed at all, directly affecting the user experience.

Based on this data, the Central Bank sorts every institution into five categories: A, B, C, D and E. Being in category A means operating with a success rate of 99% or higher on the month’s transactions, with no failures or interruptions in communication with the BCB system affecting more than 1% of daily transaction volume. It is the highest level of performance, reached only by companies with highly resilient technology infrastructure, continuous monitoring and teams dedicated to stability and transaction security.

Trio is closing the year with an A rating, establishing itself among the most stable institutions in the country’s Pix ecosystem. To see the BCB’s official list for October, follow this link.

Balanced performance and growth

Beyond technical stability, Trio’s operation also stood out for its scalability. With an average of 1 support ticket per 50,000 transactions, operational performance shows maturity and efficiency, even amid the rapid growth seen over the year.

In the first half of the year, the company posted a significant increase in processing volume compared with the same period the year before, without compromising system availability: an important milestone that shows how robust and stable the operation is.

Leadership in iGaming and new horizons

In the iGaming sector, Trio already processes roughly 40% of the regulated market, reinforcing its position as a benchmark for highly reliable, high-volume instant payments.

According to the executive team, the combination of technology, compliance and operational strength creates the ideal conditions to expand into new segments. Next year is expected to bring new products and integrations, keeping pace with regulatory progress and the evolution of the payments market.

A commitment to transparency and innovation

Earning an A rating from the BCB is more than a technical recognition: it is proof that transparency, security and stability are at the heart of Trio’s strategy.

This performance reinforces our commitment to a reliable, modern and accessible financial system, where technology is used to deliver the best possible experience in every transaction.
