Why use a prepaid card?

Corporate prepaid cards are growing fast in the business world, offering benefits that make day-to-day operations easier. That is why we are adding them as a way to concentrate your money movements directly in your company’s payment account inside the Trio console. This type of card can be used for in-store and online purchases, cash withdrawals, transfers to other cards and specific services such as paying suppliers through payment links. The new feature will be available starting January 2025.

Unlike traditional credit cards, prepaid cards ensure that users only spend the amount loaded in advance, which avoids debt and makes spending easier to control. This is especially useful if you want to set a monthly spending limit and manage your budget better.

Connecting a prepaid card to your Trio account is therefore a way to streamline company processes and give more mobility to employees and to the team responsible for media buying. Manage spending smartly in the same dashboard that holds your payments and receipts. If you’re interested in getting yours, join the exclusive waitlist: TRIO CARD WAITLIST

If this still feels a bit far from your world, let us walk you through the biggest advantages of having a Trio card.

Corporate spend management

For companies looking to manage expenses efficiently and practically, corporate cards are an essential tool. They let managers track spending transparently and under control directly in the Trio dashboard, offering convenience and security for both the administrative team and employees.

With a dedicated platform and dedicated cards, companies can monitor transactions and adjust spending limits as needed, giving employees autonomy while avoiding overspending or budget deviations.

With corporate cards, transactions are recorded in real time, each expense is categorized, and the company’s financial control becomes easier. The solution also provides detailed reports that reveal spending patterns and cost-saving opportunities. Managers get a broad, accurate view of the finances without dealing with complex reimbursements or lengthy expense reporting.

International travel

Traveling abroad takes a lot of preparation, and one of the main concerns is usually keeping finances under control during the trip. International travel cards are a modern, practical way to avoid carrying large amounts of cash. With these cards, you can shop in stores, withdraw cash from local ATMs and make payments safely and conveniently.

Beyond security, the card offers flexibility. Users can load the amount they need for the trip and, if they need more, top up while abroad.

This type of card is also accepted worldwide, since it runs on a major card network (Mastercard), so it can be used at virtually any merchant around the world.

Advertising spend

Ever wondered how a company with global operations pays its regional suppliers and affiliates quickly and on a recurring basis? A prepaid card is the ideal answer. These cards are very commonly issued to cover the costs of marketing campaigns, media channel investment, and influencer and affiliate marketing. Control is one of the main advantages. Once departments agree, a budget is set for the campaign and, when it is reached, the funds run out, so no change in the campaign’s dynamics can commit more than what was set aside to hit its goal.

How does it work?

Here is how prepaid cards work and how they can be activated and used, in 5 steps:

  1. Define your need: You can get a Trio prepaid card for employees or for company departments. The card can be tailored to the user’s needs, whether for international use or for managing personal or corporate expenses.
  2. Activation and registration: Once you have the card, it needs to be activated. With prepaid cards, the company itself activates the card, and the end user’s details must match. During the process, you will be asked for personal information for security and identity verification.
  3. Loading the card: After activation, the next step is to load the card with the desired amount. This can be done in the Trio console passively (the finance manager provides the balance) or actively (the user requests the balance and provides a justification). Users can also choose to receive recurring deposits, such as their salary, directly on the card, which gives them access to the balance without manual transfers.
  4. Using the card: With the card activated and loaded, the user is ready to use it for all kinds of transactions. The cards are accepted at any merchant that takes Mastercard, including stores, restaurants, e-commerce sites, media platforms and more. The withdrawal feature lets users take out cash at ATMs as needed.
  5. Reloading: The prepaid card works with a balance limited to the amount loaded. Whenever the balance runs out, the user can reload the card by repeating the initial process. This is especially useful for people who use the card regularly and want to keep things simple day to day.

White label: offer it to your customers

Have you imagined putting even more of your company’s brand into your customers’ lives? Buying Trio’s infrastructure as Banking as a Service also includes offering the prepaid card as a white-label product. In other words, your customer chooses the brand that appears, both on the cards and in the transactional payment account console.
